The 6th International Conference of The Yangtze River Research and Innovation Belt (Y-RIB) in collaboration with UNESCAP

On

Sustainable Inland Waterway Transport Development

Introduction: 

Since its inception in 2018, the Yangtze River Research and Innovation Belt (Y-RIB) has been contributing to meeting a growing demand for talent cultivation and joint research related to the Belt and Road Initiative, the River-Sea Intermodal Transport Service Center, and the Development of the Yangtze River Economic Zone. Following five annual conferences held in China, the 6th international conference of the Y-RIB will be held at Ocean College, Zhejiang University, China, on 6-8 June 2024. This conference is co-held by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).

 

The importance of major rivers in the world is growing multi-dimensional, e.g., from cultural, social, economic, and environmental perspectives. In particular, river-sea, river-inland transportation networks and green logistics are focal issues along the rivers including the Mekong River, the longest river in Southeast Asia. Having considered the above, the main theme of this conference is entitled “Sustainable Inland Waterway Transport Development”.

 

This conference will be an arena for sharing knowledge and experiences of academia, experts, business stakeholders, and policy-makers in inland water, logistics shipping, and port fields.

 

The key topics will be addressed at the conference, but not limited to:

  • Integrated inland-waterway and multimodal land transport systems

  • River shipping and operation case studies: Yangtze River, Mekong River, etc.

  • Barging system in river transport

  • Optimization model of river-sea intermodal transportation

  • Current state-of-the-art basic and applied research methodology for inland water transport

  • Trends, challenges, and policies for future air transport and low-cost carriers’ development
